David Asquith, Regional Manager for the North East runs the 2016 London Marathon.
“After 5 failed attempts to enter the London Marathon, I took part in a club ballot and won the golden ticket. I was ecstatic!
Training took over my life for 6 months. I struggled through all weathers, home and work responsibilities to train around 50 miles a week, that’s 4 to 5 hours on one long run. On the day of the race, the City of London came to life with stewards for the race and a ton of supporters which created a great atmosphere. At the start of the race, everyone was in their pens raring to go; smiling, laughing, chatting and full of nervous energy.
On the long 26.2 mile run you had lots of time to view the sites and spot the amazing costumes. Before you know it you’re crossing the line with heavy legs, a big smile and a few tears in your eyes as a big, well deserved medal is placed around your neck. You will not find any other race like the London Marathon – it is the most electric race I have done!”
David raised an amazing £2,000 which he is donating to his local running club – Ashington Hirst Running Club – who help introduced people to running for free.
